HOW CAN I TELL IF I HAVE COCKROACHES?
Cockroaches will leave evidence in areas where they occupy space. It is their droppings and it takes the form in a salt and pepper like substance that sticks to surfaces. They will also shed their skin as they grow.

Cockroaches are commonly found in stacks of paper, inside appliances, around plumbing and in the hinges of your kitchen cabinets. They become most active when the house goes quiet and will look for water and food to eat.
WHAT IS A COCKROACH?
Cockroaches are insects that have many different subspecies. German cockroaches are the species that we most commonly deal with and they are around 1.1 cm to 1.6 cm in size and their colours range from tan to black. They typically have a distinct set of “racing stripes” down they backs when they are full developed.

Female cockroaches will carry an egg sack called an “ootheca” until the eggs are ready to hatch at which point the female will find a safe place to detach from the ootheca. The ootheca can carry anywhere between 30-40 eggs and once hatched takes only 50-60 days to reach full maturity. These cockroaches reproduce incredibly fast and early detection is key to proper control.

Cockroaches are brilliant survivors and really can thrive with merely the presence of water so it’s best to keep your kitchen and washroom as dry as possible when dealing with an infestation.

Cockroaches can create a toxic, unsightly mess with their feces and shedded skin in your kitchen and washrooms but given enough time the pest will spread out through your home.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO GET RID OF COCKROACHES?
This all depends on your infestation level, the amount of DIY treatments that have taken place and how much time and effort the client puts in with following pre and post treatment instructions. Typically if everything goes according to plan a heavy cockroach infestation can be taken care of in about a month with regular visits to re-apply bait and exchange monitors. Sometimes less, sometimes more. There are many factors at play that can either speed up or slow down a treatment process.
WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO PREVENT GETTING COCKROACHES IN THE FIRST PLACE?
Avoid the use of cardboard boxes when picking up groceries or other goods. Cockroaches love cardboard. Keeping a dry and clean kitchen can also help as well as sealing potential entry points around baseboards and plumbing. Typically in a detached home a cockroach needs to be introduced to the environment or structure (there are exceptions to this depending on the species of cockroach). In an apartment building however cockroaches can travel up and down and throughout a building so it’s imperative if you want to keep them away from your apartment to keep kitchens dry, clean and to store your foods in sit tight containers.
