Rodent Control
Whether it’s mice or rats, SeeNo Pest Control can help! Through an integrated approach of both lethal and non-lethal methods we can help to find how the rodents are entering, block them out in the future and exterminate the left over population within the structure.
HOW TO TELL IF THERE ARE MICE OR RATS IN MY SPACE?
Mice will leave anywhere from 50-75 droppings a day. They leave droppings everywhere they go so mouse feces is always a tell tale sign of an infestation or presence. Rats on the other hand will use their droppings to make their territory so they will appear more scattered than mice droppings. Other signs to look for when determining if you’re dealing with a rat or mice are chewing marks on walls or baseboards and grease smears around holes and crevices where rats could be passing through to get from one area to another. When dealing with either mice or rat infestations, if and when left unchecked, both species will produce a musty smell.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A MOUSE AND A RAT?
There are several signs to help tell the difference between mice and rats. Mice have large ears, pointed noses and their tails are longer than their bodies. Rats on the other hand have tails that are actually shorter than their bodies and slightly smaller ears than mice. Mice are generally small and never reach a size much bigger than a common potato.
In terms of their habits both are nocturnal being mostly active at night and sleeping most of the day. Mice will generally eat anything with their favourites being seeds, fruits and grains. Rats generally depend on human foods and have been known to be very destructive in their pursuit.
Another tell tale sign of which rodent is infesting your home would be their feces. Mice typically urinate and defecate on the go making tracking a bit easier whereas rats use their bodily waste as a means of marking their territory meaning they are a bit more particular about where they go. The sizes are a good indicator as well. Mice feces are pretty small when compared to that of a rat. The biggest difference between rats and mice is the size of the rodent.
I THINK THERE MIGHT BE A SQUIRREL OR RACOON IN MY ATTIC, CAN YOU HELP WITH THIS?
Hearing something up in your attic and unsure about it. No, problem. Get in touch with us to schedule a wildlife inspection. We will inspect the outside and roof of your home to determine what exactly is getting in and nesting in your attic. Once we determine which animal may be freeloading in your home we will humanely provide an exclusion which will allow the animal to leave and we will safe guard all common access points to make sure no future squatters make their way in again.
WHAT NON-LETHAL METHODS DO YOU USE?
All methods for animal control (Racoons, Skunks, Possums, Bats) are humane with the goal being to evict the animals and sealing off any potential entry points to ensure they can not get back in. When it comes to insect control we can keep treatments to the physical removal of pests by way of vacuum and steam but these practices can only go so far. The use of diatomaceous earth can be use, and when used properly can be very effective.
WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO PREVENT RODENT FROM GETTING INTO MY SPACE?
The best offense is a good defense and when dealing with rodents this means prevention by way of proper garbage storage on the outside of your home as well as proper fall and spring clean up. The more clutter around your home means there is more hiding and nesting sites available for rodents. The more poorly stored garbage means plenty of food and nesting materials for rodents. The next best step is to walk around your home and any hole, crack or crevice you find that you can fit your pinky finger into should be sealed. Steel wool and spray foam can work to block mice out but concrete and stainless steel will need to be used for rats.
